Israel Engagement

The Israel Engagement Committee seeks out and evaluates cultural, educational and advocacy opportunities for our members to engage with Israel – both within our congregation and within the larger Jewish community, and to support its flourishing as a peaceful, democratic home for all Jews.

Make shakshuka with Orly!!! Follow along with her virtual cooking demo and recipe here:

You can email us pics of your finished dish, or serve it for dinner and show it off live at 7pm on Tuesday, 4/28 for our Virtual Cafe Israel! (See details below).

• During the day on Tuesday (4/28), join The Jewish Agency for Israel Shlichim (Israeli emissaries) for Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s Remembrance Day. Honor the soldiers who gave their lives serving Israel by engaging in meaningful online programming via Zoom led by North American Shlichim. Find a full list of Yom Hazikaron programs here.

7pm, Tuesday night (4/28)Put on your blue and whites, pour yourself a drink, and join us by Zoom for the RSNS Virtual Cafe Israel!

We’ll start with a moment of silence as we transition from Yom HaZikkaron (Day of Remembrance) to Yom Ha’atzma’ut (Israeli Independence Day). Then we’ll join in an Israeli singalong with Cantor Eric, followed by a breakout Israeli Craft Room for kids, while the adults raise a glass to Israel’s independence, and have an open-ended zoom conversation about anything Israel-related. Your favorite movie from our film series? Your feelings about the current situation? A memory from a time you visited or lived in Israel? It’s all fair game! But the fun doesn’t stop there...

On Wednesday (4/29) from 11am-4pm, join the whole Long Island Jewish Community for Virtual IsraelFest!!

All events can be streamed on the Sid Jacobson JCC’s Center for Israel Facebook page.

Catch up on our Israeli film series! Here’s a list of ALL the films we’ve watched in the past several years. Most are available to rent/download/stream!

Late Marriage, Zero Motivation, Footnote, Foxtrot, Gett, The Matchmaker, In Between, Omar, Dancing with Arabs
