Agencies and Organizations that can be helpful

The list that follows is designed to aid our aging population (and those that care for them) in beginning the process of locating available information, support and services. This guide lists phone numbers (usually toll-free). Each of these agencies/organizations is also easily accessed online by entering the name of the organization in the search box on any popular search engine (such as Google, Yahoo, etc.).

RSNS Mutual Support Program – [516-627-6274] can help by:

  • making connections between Synagogue members who have experienced (or are experiencing similar crises and can provide concrete information & emotional support.
  • providing various services (i.e.: companionship for someone who is isolated by illness, help with errands, transportation to appointments, etc.)

PIC – Partners in Caring at the Sid Jacobson JCC – [516-484-1545 ext. 196] offers: short-term counseling, support groups, resources & referrals, community workshops.

SRC – Shira Ruskay Center – [212-632-4608] offers services similar to the FEGS Program within NYC’s Five Boroughs.

Jewish Community Services [212-632-4500]

PICC & SRC services are all funded by the UJA/Federation and are intended to meet the needs of Jewish Families.

Project Independence [Dial (311) or (516) 869-6311] is designed to “mobilize existing services in the community – health & social services, government & community services, information & referral services” to aid Town of North Hempstead residents to ‘age-in-place’. Services are rapidly expanding, based on “information gathered at community meetings”.

Eldercare Locator [1-800-677-1116] is a public service of the Administration on Aging, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It provides directory assistance designed to help older persons and caregivers locate local support resources (such as: meals, home care, transportation, housing alternatives, home repair, recreation & social activities, legal & community services).

ECHO – National Institute for Jewish Health [1-845-425-9750] provides free expert, objective & personalized medical referrals and guidance.
