At Gan Shalom, our Morahs constantly work to create engaging and enriching experiences that spark curiosity and foster a love of learning. A perfect example of these experiences from our fall curriculum is the seasonal, bright, bumpy, and, arguably smelly pumpkin.
Our students embarked on a pumpkin-filled adventure. We explored pumpkins in every way imaginable: we opened them up, felt their texture, painted them, hammered nails into them, attempted to grow things inside them, and counted their seeds. Morah Miriam’s class even delved into the world of art, learning about Yayoi Kusama’s polka-dotted pumpkins and creating their own dotted masterpieces using pumpkin outlines and seeds.
One of Morah Miriam’s students carried these experiences with him on a trip to Washington D.C.. In a walk through the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden, he was surprised with a giant Kusama Pumpkin! Capturing this moment in a photo, he carried the magic of the experience back to Gan Shalom and RSNS. We happily added the photo to our Pumpkin bulletin board, celebrating the full circle moment of bringing Gan Shalom’s lessons beyond and back to our learning environment.
We’re so grateful for the opportunity to nurture young minds and create lasting memories. As our students grow, we hope they continue to carry the spirit of Gan Shalom and RSNS with them, wherever their adventures may take them.
