![]() Adar/Adar II 5763 March 2003 From Rabbi Jodie...Just as our ancestors celebrated Purim uniquely, each grade in our school created a special way of approaching this holiday of Purim. The kindergarten, Aleph and Daled classes worked together this year to put on a Purim play and to create shlah manot packages. These packages were filled with fruits and treats to share with their families. It was wonderful for both age groups to experience working with children in either a lower or upper grade. The one on one interaction between an older and younger student allowed for engaging discussion. The Bet class has been diligently working on the Shushan Gazette. This is a newspaper they are compiling that depicts life in the city of Shushan during Purim. There are interviews with Queen Esther, comic strips and pictures of life during this time period. The Gimmel class made their own Megillah. This is the scroll of Esther which is read on Purim. The Hay class will be constructing masks, for this holiday is about what is hidden and what is revealed. This will give the class a head start on their costumes for the Megillah reading. The Vav class is engaging in a text study of Megillat Esther. They are approaching the text through drama, writing in their journals and class discussion. Everyone is welcome to come celebrate PURIM at the MEGILLAH READING on Monday, March 17th at 7 p.m. There will be no Synagogue School on Tuesday, March 18 th due to the holiday of Purim.
The next Education Committee meeting will be on March 12th at 7:30 p.m. The all-day Education committee meeting will take place on May 8th. The concluding meeting will be on June 12th at 12:30 p.m. If you are unable to attend and you would like your opinion heard, please contact Lisa Rafofsky or Elizabeth Lesser prior to the meeting date.
Whether you are new to the congregation or have been with us for years, please take this opportunity to bring your young children or grandchildren, ages 0-5, to this innovative, exciting Shabbat program. We begin with a brief service set to music followed by a hands on holiday activity for the children, led by Lauren Pulver. The children will focus on Purim. This month the adults will engage in a text study, based on the Torah Portion of that week, in the main sanctuary. Please join us on Shabbat, March 15th at 10:30 a.m.
The B'yahad program is an ongoing Saturday morning family service and education experience. All families are encouraged to attend every B'yahad session. Individual classes will play an instrumental role on specific dates. Services begin at 9:45 a.m. March 1st will feature the Vav class and March 15th will feature the Gimmel class. This will act as a reinforcement of our prayer program.
