NATIONAL REFUGEE SHABBAT

In conjunction with HIAS, RSNS is joining congregations across the nation in raising awareness about the plight of refugees around the world, and our role as Jews and Americans in responding to this worsening crisis.

Please join us for any of the following programming during the weekend of Friday-Saturday, October 19/20:

• Shabbat Unplugged (Friday 10/19, 8pm): In addition to special readings in commemoration of Refugee Shabbat, we are delighted to welcome RSNS teen Jonah Hirschwerk, who will speak about his experiences last summer with the URJ Mitzvah Corps, where he worked with children of refugees from The Congo and Afghanistan at an IRC camp in Seattle.

• B’Yahad Adult Torah Study (Saturday 10/20, 9am): All congregants are invited to study parshat Lech L’cha with Cantor Eric, with a focus on Abraham and Sarah as the original “Syrian refugees.” In addition, Cantor Eric will introduce our new refugee resettlement partnership with HIAS, other Port synagogues, and a newly-arrived refugee family from El Salvador. Come learn how you can help make a difference with a family right here on Long Island!
